Count Basie on Verve
Sometime ago Mosaic issued a Set with Count Basie Verve recordings. Here you can find just the listing. Could be helpful if you are a fan of the Count or Mosaic, since the set is out-of-print for more than a decade.

665-5 New Basie Blues (NP-arr) Mercury 8964 (45)

668-4 Fawncy Meeting You (NH-arr) - - -
Note: Discographies have dated this session as January 17, 1952.
On matrix 665, Mercury 8964 (45) lists -4 on the label and -5 in the wax. It's not certain if matrix 665-5 also surfaced on a Clef 45.
Some discographies incorrectly list matrix 666 with -4.
Fawncy Meeting You is the same tune as the Basie recording of Fancy Meeting You recorded for OKeh in 1941.

-1 omit Powell, J. Wilkins, Royal, E. Wilkins, F. Johnson, Fowlkes.
Note: The Mercury 78 of No Name is mislabelled as Jive at Five and the matrix in the wax is also incorrect (it's given as 688-6). It's not certain if Mercury and Clef 78 versions of Jive at Five were ever issued. On the flip side of this 78, matrix 691 is mislabelled as Jumping at the Woodside. A copy of the 45 has eluded us and it's not certain if the same errors exist.

Original sessions produced by Norman Granz.
Produced for release by Scott Wenzel
Executive Producer: Michael Cuscuna
Tape transfers: Ellen Fitton
Mastered using 24-bit resolution by Malcolm Addey at the Malcolm Addey Studio, New York City.
Sessions Q & R are stereo. All other selections are mono.
All tracks courtesy of The Verve Music Group.
This compilation (p)2005 Universal Music Enterprises, a Division of UMG Recordings Inc., Santa Monica, CA 90404-U.S.A. Manufactured by Universal Music Enterprises. Warning: All rights reserved. Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws.
Producer's note: The source material used for this set comes from the original analog tapes at Universal Music. However, we were not able to locate a first generation tape or lacquers for sessions (A), (B) and (K) and therefore used what is now the earliest source which are transfers from the original lacquers to tape made sometime back in the '50s. As for the other tape transfers, some miscellaneous tape imperfections (drop outs, etc) have surfaced due to their age and condition.
In some cases, the 78 and 45 issues list a different take in the wax than what is printed on the label. These false alternate takes, more often than not, turn out to be the common LP take. However, alternate takes have surfaced that were not in the vaults at Universal Music: New Basie Blues (matrix 665-5) came from a 45, No Name (matrix 689-6) came from a 78 and I'm Beginning to See the Light (matrix 20139-4) came from an LP. These three sources were provided by The Institute of Jazz Studies.
Sources used for this discography were Michel Ruppli's The Clef / Verve Labels (Greenwood Press) and Chris Sheridan's Count Basie - A Bio-Discography (Greenwood Press).
Special thanks: Bryan Koniarz, David Lennick, The Institute of Jazz Studies, Benny Powell, Kevin Reeves, Lily Salinas, Phil Schaap and Kenny Washington.
