Don Ellis Discography

When I compiled this discography, at the beginning I used the notes of Lutz Fürnsin from Austria. Met him only once and we three old fellows - Lutz, Klaus Schulz and myself - got drunk at a "Heurigen" in Vienna. I suppose this happened about 1990. Sadly, Lutz died around 2000, Klaus this year. So I'm the only one of the trio still on this planet.

The discography was incomplete, I added many, many information. I will add more before I shall die.

Jürgen Dittwald sent a whole bunch of information. all our included in this version. Many thanks, dear Jürgen!

Forum FS 9035 is a reissue of SR-52038, but early pressings have a wrong sequence on Side B and 13554 mistakenly appears as B-3 and 13655 appears as B-5 without identification. 13556, 13559 and 13652 are missing on those pressings and 13549 appears twice!

EXTRA:
Recording of a Don Ellis composition
by Charlie Byrd

Byrd of paradise (mistitled Bird of Paradise on LP cover)
Recorded Los Angeles, CA February 27, 1969
pers. Mario Darpino fl / Charlie Byrd g / Gene Byrd b / Bill Reichenbach dr
Issued on Columbia CS 9627 entitled Charlie Byrd Let's go

Did Don Ellis actually play on United States of America (Columbia LP)?
He is not included on cover information. Probably Joe Byrd co-founded the New Music Workshop together with Don Ellis and after Don Ellis left, the group USoA was born. But it could be that Don Ellis returned for the recording.
